Day 184 - Opposites Attract

Well I'm back with my take on a Tuesday challenge (okay, I know I said Audrey would be back today, but she really will be back next week!).

For now, let's talk about the challenge for today...

It's called Opposites Attract because I want you to choose 2 colors, one you like best and one you like least, and scrap with only shades of those colors. It does count to incorporate some black and/or white, as long as your other two colors are dominant on your card.

Here's my card:

So pink is my favorite color, and I was actually torn between purple and yellow (which happen to be the two colors I scrap with the least), but I felt that yellow would pose the greatest challenge for me.

You don't actually have to dislike either of the colors you choose, but sometimes there's a color that you just don't like to scrap with as much.

Day 181 - Opposite Day

Today is officially Opposite Day here at 365 Cards!!

I remember playing that silly game when I was growing up, and I thought it would make for a fun challenge. So take a look around you and think the "opposite" of what you see, think or feel. If you are grumpy, make a happy card. If it's rainy, make a sunny card. Make sense? What's great about this challenge is the possibilities constantly change throughout the day, so when you sit down to make your card one moment the outcome could be totally different later on!

Let's take a look at Heidi's card:

She got really creative with this one - not only is the opposite season (winter vs. summer), but Heidi says she also chose colors that are not typically associated with Christmas, and that's what makes this card truly fabulous!!

I'm interested to see which opposite (or opposites) you'll use!

Day 180 - Keep it Simple

Okay Clean and Simple fans, this one's for you.

On a Keep it Simple challenge, we like to limit you to just a few items to put on your card and that's it.

The items for this challenge are:

One stamped image (can be rubber/clear or digi), one piece of patterned paper, and one piece of ribbon.

You know that this is Sophie's style, so she produced a fabulous card:

I am just loving those curved sentiments from KLM designs - and this is a lovely Christmas card, Sophie.

So 365ers, keep it simple if you can...

Day 179 - White Space

You know how the White Space challenge goes. Keep your card blank (no matter what the background color) in all the white areas, and the keep the decorations in the blacked out areas.

This is stunning with its Clean and Simple style! I love the way the sentiment from KLM Designs curves around the snowflake.

Day 178 - Imagine This: Sugar

Every morning I sprinkle a little into my coffee, and I'm thinking it would make for a good challenge.

For an Imagine This challenge, you just let the item for the challenge inspire your card. In this case the item is Sugar. Here is how it inspired Kim's card:

Sugar is sweet, and so is this card. Kim even used Basic Grey "Sugar Rush" paper - that's excellent! And let's talk about that adorable clown image from KLM Designs - super sweet without the cavities.

I think you can take this in so many different directions, and I can't wait to see what y'all come up with!

Day 177 - Color 4 Ways

Today's challenge is to add color to your card in at least 4 different ways, other than through the use of solid color or patterned paper.

This was a challenge for me, since I love to use patterned paper to add color to a stamped image. Here's my card:

Other ways I added color are: staining (around the edges), sponging on ink, coloring with markers, computer toner, and watercolor paints. It's hard to see the painting, but I used a baby blue color over the sentiment that I printed out on watercolor paper. Then I used a circle punch to pop them out of the paper.

A challenge like this can really make you conscious of how you decorate your card with color. It was fun to step out of my comfort zone and get creative.

I hope you'll give this challenge a try and share other ways you can add color to your cards!

Day 174 - Sing Along Saturday

And the song I chose to inspire our cards for today is I Hope you Dance by Lee Ann Womack. This song is so beautiful and just makes me feel happy when I listen to it. I hope you feel the same way :)

Day 173 - Don't Forget Your Purse!

It's been a while since I've had a really cheesy title for the challenge :) However, it's a fun and simple challenge to make a purse envelope for your card.

Mirkwood Designs is my "go to" site for wonderful card making templates, and you can find one for this challenge Here. I know there are other templates and tutorials out there, so if you know of one, please share!

Day 172 - Do Over

Have you ever started a card that you couldn't seem to finish, or finished a card but you just weren't happy with it? Now's your chance to pull it out and make those repairs to turn it into the card that wanted it to be in the first place.

I actually got this idea from the many bloggers who have said that they just weren't happy with a certain card, but didn't quite know how to fix it. Sometimes it's a matter of starting over, but after you've spent hours working on a card that you're just not happy with you might not want to look at it anymore.

No matter what your reason, maybe now you are ready to give it another go.

So of course I'm wondering what the original card was like, that it became this beautiful creation. Hannah shared this card with me that she created for a 365 Cards challenge over a year ago:

Of course this one is lovely, too, but the most important thing is that Hannah is happy with her new card! She tells me that she used the same card base, added the glittery frame again, and the other additions you can see in the first card.

Well done, Hannah, and thanks for the inspiration!!

Day 171 - Wacky Color Wednesday

Every now and then I like to throw in a "wacky color" challenge - you know, those colors when used together (and only those colors) just don't sound like a great combo?

Well this time I chose Brown, Grey, and Yellow - thinking that perhaps it would be challenge to limit ourselves to just shades of those 3 colors. But Kim has totally shot down that notion with this card:

Um...WOW! The shading on this card is gorgeous, and that sweet doggie image from Robyn's Fetish is just adorable!!

So stick to those 3 colors only and see what you come up with. And don't worry - it still counts if you use some white.

Day 170 - Tuesday Triplets

I'm back and I'm taking over the Tuesday spot while Audrey is away (but don't worry Audrey fans - she'll be back!).

Today's challenge is all about doing things in 3's. I've got four required items: buttons, flowers, circles, and the color green, and all of these items need to appear in 3's on your card.

Here's my example:

I've actually got 4 buttons (but one of them counts as a flower, and it has little specks of green on it) and three of them are green and circle shaped. The third shade of green is found in the leaves in the image, and there are a total of 3 flowers on the card.

As you can see, it counts to when you combine the requirements, and you are not limited to just these items.

It was definitely a challenge, but it was also a treat to play with this image from Robyn's Fetish Digital Image -- wouldn't you just love to win that prize and play with some of your very own? Day 166 - Ad Inspired

How about an Ad Inspired challenge?

Well today I'm bringing you the ad and the card.

I was drawn to the simple beauty of this Williams Sonoma advertisement:

And here's my card:

I wanted to use an image from Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps, and I thought the Gladiola image had a similar look to the tulips in the photo.

Day 165 - ATC

I'm super excited about this challenge! ATC's (aka Artist Trading Cards) are not a new thing, but they are new to 365 Cards. I've always wanted to try making one myself, and I thought maybe some of you have as well.

ATC's are 2.5"x3.5" in size and are meant to be traded (not sold), which makes them extra special. With this challenge, anything goes as long as it meets the required dimensions. I've seen all sorts of media used to create them, so no matter what your comfort zone, you can have fun with it.

Hannah tells me that this is her first time making an ATC and I think it is a fabulous start for her! And check out that charming little mouse with the watermelon - it definitely makes me want to "smile".

Day 164 - Funny Formula

Sometimes these goofy challenge ideas pop into my head, and I just have to give them a try. So this one is called "funny formula" because it is a formula of sorts. It means that one element of your card must meet all the following requirements:

Flower+pink+stamp (rubber/clear or digi) + glitter = One item on your card.

Here is Kim's card, using that sweet little girl image:

This is stunningly gorgeous! Take a look at the image - the flower is a stamp, pink, and it is glittery - everything is there!

Remember, the formula doesn't apply to the whole card, just one element.
