Day 184 - Opposites Attract

Well I'm back with my take on a Tuesday challenge (okay, I know I said Audrey would be back today, but she really will be back next week!).
For now, let's talk about the challenge for today...
It's called Opposites Attract because I want you to choose 2 colors, one you like best and one you like least, and scrap with only shades of those colors. It does count to incorporate some black and/or white, as long as your other two colors are dominant on your card.
Here's my card:

So pink is my favorite color, and I was actually torn between purple and yellow (which happen to be the two colors I scrap with the least), but I felt that yellow would pose the greatest challenge for me.
You don't actually have to dislike either of the colors you choose, but sometimes there's a color that you just don't like to scrap with as much.
Tomorrow I will bring another sneak peek of the RAK I'm giving away at the end of the week...

Day 183 - Digging Deep

Well it's Monday, and that means some winners. And today that also means a Guest Designer! But first let's talk about the winner from KLM Designs Week.
Congrats to Rachel Hope!!!
Please contact me here to make arrangements to receive your prize!
We've got a fabulous Top Trio and here they are:
1) Niili - and this creatively quilled sketch card.
2) Delisa - Inspired by sugar, this card is super sweet.
3) Wendy P - For some creatively colored crabs.
Thanks for sharing your talents with us this week, and feel free to grab the Card of the Week blinkie from the sidebar.
We have two Weekly Challenge All-Stars this week:
Pamela S. Wade and Linda B.

They both made wonderful cards everyday from Sunday to Saturday last week! If I missed anyone please let me know.
I believe I mentioned this week's prize for one lucky winner. I will share pictures throughout the week, but I am giving away a big RAK in celebration of my 2nd blogoversary over on my personal blog. Here are some images of the patterned paper the winner will receive:

And that's all I'm sharing for now...

So today's challenge is called Digging Deep because it requires you to dig down in that stash to find the following things and include them on your card:

An item (not paper) that is at least 6 months old
2 sheets of patterned paper that you've never used
An embellishment that you've had for more than a year
A stamp that you've never used but you've had for at least a year

First I will share Gloria's incredibly stunning card:

You can visit her blog for all the details...

You might recall that a few weeks ago we invited some Top Trio winners to be guest designers for us. Well today we have Kristina Harmon and her take on the challenge. Here is her gorgeous card:

And here's a bit about this card designer:

Hi there, my name is Kristina and I am so happy to be a guest designer here at 365 Cards! I am a wife, mom, and nanny. I love doing paper crafts and have been scrapbooking on and off for years, although I took a MAJOR break from 1999 - 2009. I started a blog to share my passion and interact with like minded people. My days are filled with drool, bottles, diapers, cooking, cleaning, fur and of course crafting and blogging. You can learn more about me, my family and my passions on my blog, http://kmhworld.blogspot.com/ .

We're so happy that you could join us on this challenge, Kristina, and thanks for sharing this wonderful card!

Okay 365ers, we'd love to see what you get from 'digging deep' in your stash - and if you have any trouble meeting the above requirements, then just come as close as you can...

Day 182 - Super Sketchy Sunday

Happy Birthday to Design Team Member, Heidi Stock!!! I hope you have a wonderful day, Heidi!
It's Sunday, and that means a sketch! So here it is:

Did you take one look at this sketch and think 'snowman'? I know I did, and so did the DT, lol! Here are the Design Team examples for this week:

Hmmmm - if we don't have a sponsor, then will there be a prize this week? Why yes, there is a prize! I technically had my personal blogoversary a couple of weeks ago, but I'm celebrating this week and I hope you'll join me by participating in some challenges here at 365 Cards. I have a great RAK that I set aside for just this occasion, and I will post pictures and share details on tomorrow's post.
Oh yeah, and just because I'm excited about starting my 3rd blogging year, I think that every challenge you complete will earn you TWO entries into the random drawing at the end of the week. That means you can earn FOURTEEN entries if you complete all seven challenges!
Get ready to celebrate and I'll be back tomorrow with some winners...

Day 181 - Opposite Day

Today is officially Opposite Day here at 365 Cards!!
I remember playing that silly game when I was growing up, and I thought it would make for a fun challenge. So take a look around you and think the "opposite" of what you see, think or feel. If you are grumpy, make a happy card. If it's rainy, make a sunny card. Make sense? What's great about this challenge is the possibilities constantly change throughout the day, so when you sit down to make your card one moment the outcome could be totally different later on!

Let's take a look at Heidi's card:

She got really creative with this one - not only is the opposite season (winter vs. summer), but Heidi says she also chose colors that are not typically associated with Christmas, and that's what makes this card truly fabulous!!
I'm interested to see which opposite (or opposites) you'll use!

By the way, if you're new to the blog, or you're unsure of how it all works here, I've devoted an entire page to all the details. At the top of this page is a tab titled "Rules for Participation" and if you have any questions or feel that something needs to be clarified, just comment on this post and I'll update that page.
Happy scrapping!

Day 180 - Keep it Simple

Okay Clean and Simple fans, this one's for you.

On a Keep it Simple challenge, we like to limit you to just a few items to put on your card and that's it.

The items for this challenge are:
One stamped image (can be rubber/clear or digi), one piece of patterned paper, and one piece of ribbon.
You know that this is Sophie's style, so she produced a fabulous card:

I am just loving those curved sentiments from KLM designs - and this is a lovely Christmas card, Sophie.
So 365ers, keep it simple if you can...

Thursday, August 26, 2010

Day 179 - White Space

You know how the White Space challenge goes. Keep your card blank (no matter what the background color) in all the white areas, and the keep the decorations in the blacked out areas.
Here's your white space sketch:

And here's Hannah's blue beauty:

This is stunning with its Clean and Simple style! I love the way the sentiment from KLM Designs curves around the snowflake.

This has been a week of fun challenges and great digi designs, and the week's not over yet...

Day 178 - Imagine This: Sugar

Every morning I sprinkle a little into my coffee, and I'm thinking it would make for a good challenge.
For an Imagine This challenge, you just let the item for the challenge inspire your card. In this case the item is Sugar. Here is how it inspired Kim's card:

Sugar is sweet, and so is this card. Kim even used Basic Grey "Sugar Rush" paper - that's excellent! And let's talk about that adorable clown image from KLM Designs - super sweet without the cavities.

I think you can take this in so many different directions, and I can't wait to see what y'all come up with!

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

Day 177 - Color 4 Ways

Today's challenge is to add color to your card in at least 4 different ways, other than through the use of solid color or patterned paper.

This was a challenge for me, since I love to use patterned paper to add color to a stamped image. Here's my card:

Other ways I added color are: staining (around the edges), sponging on ink, coloring with markers, computer toner, and watercolor paints. It's hard to see the painting, but I used a baby blue color over the sentiment that I printed out on watercolor paper. Then I used a circle punch to pop them out of the paper.

A challenge like this can really make you conscious of how you decorate your card with color. It was fun to step out of my comfort zone and get creative.

I hope you'll give this challenge a try and share other ways you can add color to your cards!

Day 176 - Pierce and Piece

I've got various winners to start off with today, and I realized that I completely forgot to post the 365 Cards winner of the Giant Cutting Board and entry into the WorkBox Giveaway! So let me get that posted immediately...
Congrats to Kelly Massman!!!
Please contact me here with your address and phone number.
And we've got a winner from Robyn's Fetish Digital Designs Week...
Congrats to Doreen!!!!
Please contact me here and we can make the arrangements for you to receive your prize.
And of course we've got a Top Trio for you. I would have to say my personal favorite challenge galleries were the Wacky Color and Purse challenges -- so many amazing card creations! But we have narrowed it down to 3 for the week, and here they are:
1) Paula Bee - For filling her beautiful purse with a wonderful set of note cards.
2) Doreen - For this totally terrific Triplet card.
3) libeeti - for a stunning sketch card.
You are welcome to add the Card of the Week Blinkie (found in the side bar) to your blogs!
And here are the Weekly Challenge All-Stars who managed to create a card for every challenge from Sunday to Saturday last week:
Iona Sue and Studio Sara!!!

If you are a fan of both paper piercing and paper piecing, then this is the challenge for you. Let's see a card that combines both techniques - otherwise, anything goes!
Here's Gloria's card:

And a close-up of the piercing around the sentiment:

Can you see the image from KLM Designs? Well, it's actually the entire background! Yep, the quilt block design is the image, and Gloria chose some gorgeous patterned paper to piece for it.

Use a little or a lot, just be sure to pierce and piece on this one...

Day 174 - Sing Along Saturday

And the song I chose to inspire our cards for today is I Hope you Dance by Lee Ann Womack. This song is so beautiful and just makes me feel happy when I listen to it. I hope you feel the same way :)
Here are the lyrics:

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat
But always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances
But they're worth taking
Lovin' might be a mistake
But it's worth making
Don't let some hell bent heart
Leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out
Give the heavens above
More than just a passing glance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)

I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
I hope you dance
(Where those years have gone)

(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)
And here's Heidi's card:

I love that sentiment - it really captures the meaning of the song! And there's that beautiful flower image again :)

Get those cards linked up by tomorrow night at 11:59 PM EST to earn up to 7 chances to win that prize from Robyn's Fetish Digital Designs!

Day 173 - Don't Forget Your Purse!

It's been a while since I've had a really cheesy title for the challenge :) However, it's a fun and simple challenge to make a purse envelope for your card.
Mirkwood Designs is my "go to" site for wonderful card making templates, and you can find one for this challenge Here. I know there are other templates and tutorials out there, so if you know of one, please share!
Here is Sophie's lovely purse, with a special little surprise inside:

Isn't that sweet? And I just love how you presented this, Sophie!

So if you've not made one, why not give it a try? And if you have, please do share with us!!

Day 172 - Do Over

Have you ever started a card that you couldn't seem to finish, or finished a card but you just weren't happy with it? Now's your chance to pull it out and make those repairs to turn it into the card that wanted it to be in the first place.

I actually got this idea from the many bloggers who have said that they just weren't happy with a certain card, but didn't quite know how to fix it. Sometimes it's a matter of starting over, but after you've spent hours working on a card that you're just not happy with you might not want to look at it anymore.

No matter what your reason, maybe now you are ready to give it another go.

Here is Hannah's card for today:

So of course I'm wondering what the original card was like, that it became this beautiful creation. Hannah shared this card with me that she created for a 365 Cards challenge over a year ago:

Of course this one is lovely, too, but the most important thing is that Hannah is happy with her new card! She tells me that she used the same card base, added the glittery frame again, and the other additions you can see in the first card.

Well done, Hannah, and thanks for the inspiration!!

Day 171 - Wacky Color Wednesday

Every now and then I like to throw in a "wacky color" challenge - you know, those colors when used together (and only those colors) just don't sound like a great combo?
Well this time I chose Brown, Grey, and Yellow - thinking that perhaps it would be challenge to limit ourselves to just shades of those 3 colors. But Kim has totally shot down that notion with this card:

Um...WOW! The shading on this card is gorgeous, and that sweet doggie image from Robyn's Fetish is just adorable!!

So stick to those 3 colors only and see what you come up with. And don't worry - it still counts if you use some white.

And for anyone popping by to leave a comment for the Scrapbox Giveaway, click on the tab at the top of the page and you'll find all the details...

Day 170 - Tuesday Triplets

I'm back and I'm taking over the Tuesday spot while Audrey is away (but don't worry Audrey fans - she'll be back!).
Today's challenge is all about doing things in 3's. I've got four required items: buttons, flowers, circles, and the color green, and all of these items need to appear in 3's on your card.
Here's my example:

I've actually got 4 buttons (but one of them counts as a flower, and it has little specks of green on it) and three of them are green and circle shaped. The third shade of green is found in the leaves in the image, and there are a total of 3 flowers on the card.
As you can see, it counts to when you combine the requirements, and you are not limited to just these items.

It was definitely a challenge, but it was also a treat to play with this image from Robyn's Fetish Digital Image -- wouldn't you just love to win that prize and play with some of your very own? Well stick around because we've got several more challenges coming up, and you can earn up to 7 entries into the random drawing!

Day 169 - A Certain Sentiment

Okay, get ready for a looooooooooong post....
We have a winner from Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps Week. Congrats to
Vanessa Glass!!!!
Please contact me here so we can arrange for you to receive your prize.
Here's your Top Trio from last week:

2) Jan - For truly capturing the look of her blog in this gorgeous card.
3) Steph - for this lovely and very artistic ATC.

Congrats to you all - you are welcome to grab the Card of the Week blinkie from the sidebar!

And your Weekly Challenge All-Star:
Studio Sara

Well done Sara - if I missed anyone, please let me know!!

Now on to new business...
First I will start off by sharing today's challenge, and last I will tell you all about a fabulous prize giveaway that we get to be a part of.

The challenge is called "A Certain Sentiment" because I provide a sentiment, and you incorporate it in your card. The card design is up to you as long as you include the sentiment.

The sentiment is "A Little Birdie Told Me"
And Gloria is back to share her take on the challenge this week -YAY!!!! We sure missed you Gloria!

Here is the front of the card with the required portion of the sentiment:

And this is rest of the sentiment:

Gloria's sentiment is computer-generated, and I'm really liking that font! And there's that charming birdie image from Robyn's Fetish Digital Stamps looking so cute!!

So now I'm going to share news about a very cool giveaway that 365 Cards is joining in. Rachelle Christensen is hosting a giveaway for a brand spankin' new WorkBox from The Original Scrapbox on her blog. There are lots of details on how to enter (and you can earn many entries various ways), but one way is right here at 365 Cards.

First, head over to The Original Scrapbox site , check out the products, then come back here and leave a comment telling me what your favorite item is. I will pick one person at random (using Random.org) to win a Giant Cutting Board (retail value $39.95) and that person will also earn an entry into the contest to win the WorkBox. There are several blogs participating, and you can find out how to earn additional entries by visiting those blogs. For complete details and a list of those blogs, you can visit the giveaway page I created, or just click on the corresponding link at the top of this page.

***We would love to have you participate in any of our challenges at 365 Cards, but it is not a requirement to win the Giant Cutting Board prize. Participation in our challenges earns you entries to win the prize from our weekly sponsor, Robyn's Fetish Digital Stamps, which is a separate contest.***

Day 166 - Ad Inspired

How about an Ad Inspired challenge?
Well today I'm bringing you the ad and the card.
I was drawn to the simple beauty of this Williams Sonoma advertisement:

And here's my card:

I wanted to use an image from Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps, and I thought the Gladiola image had a similar look to the tulips in the photo.

If you're missing Sophie, don't worry, she'll be back next week!

Now let's see how this ad inspires your card...

Day 165 - ATC

I'm super excited about this challenge! ATC's (aka Artist Trading Cards) are not a new thing, but they are new to 365 Cards. I've always wanted to try making one myself, and I thought maybe some of you have as well.

ATC's are 2.5"x3.5" in size and are meant to be traded (not sold), which makes them extra special. With this challenge, anything goes as long as it meets the required dimensions. I've seen all sorts of media used to create them, so no matter what your comfort zone, you can have fun with it.
Here's Hannah's:

Hannah tells me that this is her first time making an ATC and I think it is a fabulous start for her! And check out that charming little mouse with the watermelon - it definitely makes me want to "smile".
If you've never made one, now's your chance. And if you have, please share with all of us -- we're ready to be inspired!

Day 164 - Funny Formula

Sometimes these goofy challenge ideas pop into my head, and I just have to give them a try. So this one is called "funny formula" because it is a formula of sorts. It means that one element of your card must meet all the following requirements:

Flower+pink+stamp (rubber/clear or digi) + glitter = One item on your card.
Here is Kim's card, using that sweet little girl image:

This is stunningly gorgeous! Take a look at the image - the flower is a stamp, pink, and it is glittery - everything is there!
Remember, the formula doesn't apply to the whole card, just one element.
Have fun :)
